Electron volts

Posted in Physics, Charge and field

Electron volts have been covered in AS Physics, they are a measurement of energy used in physics and you'll be expected to use them and convert between electron volts and joules.

Definition

1 electron volt (eV) is equal to the amount of energy a particle with the charge of an electron (Dynamic image 0) gains when moving through a potential difference of 1 volt.

Conversion

To convert from joules to electron volts you simply divide by Dynamic image 1 to convert from electron volts to joules just multiply.
