Leptons and Baryons
Posted in Physics, Probing deep into matterBaryons
Particles known as baryons include protons and neutrons. Both protons and neutrons are given a baryon number of 1. Their respective antiparticles, antiprotons and antineutrons, are both given a baryon number of -1. Particles which aren't baryons are given a baryon number of 0.
Leptons
Leptons include the electron and neutrinos. As with baryons they are given numbers. The Electrons and neutrinos are given a lepton number of 1 and their respective antiparticles are given a lepton number of -1. Particles which aren't leptons are given a lepton number of 0.
Conservation of baryon and lepton numbers
Both lepton and baryon numbers are conserved in interactions as with energy, momentum and charge.
